Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kaduna, Nigeria,March 11, 2026
Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 15 male suspects for their alleged involvement in the illegal handling and transportation of radioactive solid minerals.
The suspects were intercepted and apprehended on Sunday, March 8, 2026, along the Suleja–Maji Road in Niger State. According to the Commission, the individuals were transporting the suspected radioactive minerals in three trucks en route to various destinations across Nigeria for purposes that are yet to be disclosed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects were engaged in unauthorized dealings involving the hazardous minerals, raising concerns about potential environmental and security risks associated with their illegal movement.
The EFCC stated that the suspects are currently in custody at the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Commission, where they are undergoing further interrogation and investigation.
Authorities added that once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be formally charged to court in accordance with the law.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to combating illegal mining activities and ensuring that Nigeria’s mineral resources are managed and exploited in compliance with existing regulations.
