EFCC Arrests 42 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Gashua

Gashua, Yobe State — October 1, 2025

Operatives of the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have successfully apprehended 42 suspected internet fraudsters in Gashua Local Government Area of Yobe State.


The arrests were made during a well-coordinated sting operation conducted on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at various locations within Gashua. The operation followed credible intelligence pointing to the suspects’ involvement in computer-related crimes.
Recovered items from the suspects include seven motorcycles, one Mercedes Benz car, fifty-five phones and laptops, alongside PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PlayStation 4 (PS4) consoles. These items are believed to be tools used in the commission of their fraudulent activities.


EFCC sources revealed that intelligence gathered links the suspects to multiple forms of internet fraud. The Commission has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of these inquiries.


The EFCC continues to intensify efforts in combating cybercrime and protecting citizens from internet-related fraud across Nigeria.
