EFCC Arrests Three for Suspected Naira Mutilation in Maiduguri
Maiduguri, Borno State, February 18, 2026
The (EFCC), Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, has arrested three Maiduguri-based socialites for alleged Naira mutilation.
The suspects—Jibrin Bukar, Dauda Adamu, and Abdullahi Mohammed—were apprehended following a viral video circulated on social media platforms showing them allegedly spraying and mutilating Naira notes at a social event.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Commission traced the trio to various locations within and effected their arrest. The operation was carried out as part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to enforce laws protecting the integrity of the Nigerian currency.
Naira spraying and mutilation are offences punishable under Nigerian law, as they constitute abuse of the national currency.
The suspects are currently under investigation at the Commission’s zonal office in . According to the EFCC, they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
