The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that its operatives conducted a raid on Whitehill Hotel in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, February 27, 2025. The anti-graft agency clarified that the operation was carried out by its Kaduna zonal directorate and not by bandits, as earlier speculated in some reports.
In a statement published on its official website, the EFCC explained that the raid was based on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of 11 suspected internet fraudsters. The suspects were apprehended in broad daylight at Whitehill Hotel, located in the Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State.
“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Directorate, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, arrested 11 suspected internet fraudsters. They were arrested at Whitehill Hotel, Chanchaga Local Government Area in Niger State, following credible intelligence about their suspected involvement in fraudulent internet activities,” the statement read.
The EFCC emphasized that the operation was conducted professionally and expressed surprise at reports suggesting that the raid was carried out by bandits. “The Commission wonders where the sources claiming abduction came from,” the statement added.
During the operation, two vehicles and 13 mobile phones of different brands were recovered from the suspects. The EFCC stated that the arrested individuals would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The clarification from the EFCC comes amid growing concerns about security in the region, with some initial reports mistakenly linking the raid to bandit activity. The anti-corruption agency’s swift response aims to dispel any misinformation and reassure the public of its commitment to combating cybercrime and other financial offenses.
The raid underscores the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to tackle internet fraud and related crimes across Nigeria. The agency has consistently urged the public to provide credible information to aid its operations, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in the fight against economic and financial crimes.
As investigations continue, the EFCC has reiterated its dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that suspects are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
