EFCC Hands Over 14 Forfeited Properties to Enugu State

In a significant move aimed at fostering cooperation between the federal government and state governments, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over 14 forfeited properties to the government and people of Enugu State.

The ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, saw the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, officially transferring the properties to Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters.

During the handover ceremony, Olukoyede highlighted the longstanding legal process leading to the forfeiture, dating back to 2007. He emphasized the importance of the event as a demonstration of the collaborative relationship between the federal and state governments, affirming the people’s right to benefit from good governance.

Governor Mbah expressed gratitude for the handover, acknowledging the EFCC’s role in ensuring that the people of Enugu State reclaimed their assets. He particularly thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating the return of the forfeited properties to the state.

The governor commended Olukoyede’s efforts in strengthening the EFCC and cautioned against any attempts to undermine the institution’s integrity. He emphasized the importance of preserving and reinforcing Nigeria’s institutions for the nation’s long-term stability and development.

The forfeited properties include houses, transmission equipment for radio and television stations, and a building for medical operations, among others. This gesture marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to promote transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s governance and legal systems.
