EFCC, NCS Deepen Ties Against Money Laundering and Smuggling
Ibadan, October 6, 2025
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have resolved to strengthen their collaboration in the fight against money laundering, smuggling, and other economic crimes threatening Nigeria’s national development.
This commitment was cemented on Monday, October 6, 2025, during a familiarization visit by the newly-appointed Customs Area Controller of the Oyo and Osun Area Command, Comptroller G.I. Aliyu, to the Acting Director of the Ibadan Zonal Office of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Hauwa Garba Ringim.
Comptroller Aliyu emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating, “The Nigeria Customs Service, as a critical revenue-generating agency, shares the vision of the EFCC as the frontier against money laundering, smuggling, and other economic infractions that threaten our national development. This visit is strategic in strengthening our existing collaboration. The synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and the EFCC is indispensable. Our mandates intersect in various operations: from curbing illicit financial flow to trade-based money laundering, intercepting contraband goods and enforcing fiscal policies. The need for continued intelligence sharing and mutual support cannot be overemphasized.”
He further disclosed that the Command under his leadership is committed to enhancing inter-agency collaboration with the EFCC and other key security and law enforcement agencies. “We believe that through collaboration, capacity building, and transparent communication channels, we can achieve great success in curbing economic sabotage and improving national revenue,” Aliyu added.
Aliyu also praised the leadership of EFCC under Chairman Ola Olukoyede, recognizing the commission’s remarkable achievements in asset recovery, enforcement, prevention, and public enlightenment on corruption and financial crimes. He noted, “These efforts resonate deeply with the Nigeria Customs Service’s drive towards integrity, professionalism, and accountability in service delivery. The EFCC has earned its global reputation as Nigeria’s leading anti-corruption and law enforcement agency through a dogged commitment to fighting economic and financial crimes.”
Responding, ACE I Hauwa Garba Ringim expressed her delight at the visit, describing it as a clear and unequivocal step towards fulfilling the mandates of both agencies. She assured the Customs Area Controller of EFCC’s readiness to engage in strategic partnerships, joint task force operations, and the exchange of actionable intelligence with the Nigeria Customs Service.
Ringim concluded by noting that such partnerships would significantly contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s national economy and the establishment of a safer financial space.
The renewed commitment between the EFCC and NCS signals a robust approach to tackling economic crimes through collaboration, intelligence sharing, and joint enforcement efforts, crucial for safeguarding Nigeria’s economic future.
