EFCC Recovers N30 Billion in Probe of Suspended Minister and Former CEO

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made significant strides in its investigation into the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and the former CEO of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIPA), Halima Shehu. So far, the EFCC has recovered a staggering sum of N30 billion for the Federal Government.

According to Ola Olukoyede, the executive chairman of EFCC, the investigation is ongoing, with 50 bank accounts currently under scrutiny. Olukoyede emphasized the gravity of the case and urged Nigerians to exercise patience as the investigation unfolds.

“In less than six weeks, we have recovered over N30 billion, which has been returned to the Federal Government’s coffers,” stated Olukoyede. “Investigations of this nature require time and thoroughness. We have professionals working on this case, and we must ensure that due process is followed.”

The investigation has revealed numerous leads, with funds traced to over 50 bank accounts. Olukoyede stressed the complexity of the case and the need for meticulous investigation. Despite the challenges, he assured Nigerians of the EFCC’s commitment to upholding the law and combating corruption.

“While some may be eager to see immediate results, justice must follow due process,” Olukoyede emphasized. “We are exploring various discoveries uncovered during our investigation. Nigerians have witnessed the impact of our efforts, including the suspension of implicated individuals and significant financial recoveries.”

As the investigation progresses, Olukoyede urged Nigerians to await further developments and trust in the EFCC’s dedication to upholding the rule of law. “Every aspect of this case requires careful consideration. We ask for the public’s patience and trust as we work towards accountability and justice,” he concluded.
