EFCC Sets the Record Straight on Humanitarian Ministry Investigations
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has addressed the swirling speculations and opinions surrounding its ongoing investigations into alleged financial misappropriation within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.

Initiating investigations, the EFCC summoned past and suspended officials of the Humanitarian Ministry, leading to revelations of substantial fraud amounting to N32.7 billion and $445,000 recovered thus far.
Unveiling a tangled web of deceit, the EFCC’s discreet probes uncovered fraudulent activities intertwined with Covid-19 funds, the World Bank loan, and Abacha recovered loot, designated for poverty alleviation mandates. Several interdicted and suspended officials have been linked to these alleged financial irregularities.

Banks implicated in the fraud are also under scrutiny, with managing directors of accused banks providing vital testimonies. Those implicated will face due prosecution, as investigations continue unabated.
Regarding efforts against Naira abuse and dollarization, the EFCC commends public engagement in flagging instances of currency abuse. Notably, its Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarization commenced operations on February 7, 2024. While old videos of infractions circulate, the EFCC underscores its commitment to investigating and prosecuting all reported cases of currency abuse.
Celebrity involvement in Naira abuse has also come under EFCC scrutiny, with several summoned for questioning and more under investigation. The EFCC reaffirms its impartial stance and warns against violating currency abuse laws.
The EFCC, through Head of Media & Publicity Dele Oyewale, reiterates its resolve to uphold justice and accountability, urging public cooperation in its efforts to combat financial crimes.
