EFCC Trains Staff on Public Sector Fraud Investigation
Abuja, Nigeria – November 6, 2025
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully concluded a four-day intensive training programme on “Public Sector Fraud Prevention, Detection and Investigation” for its officers at the EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja.
The capacity-building initiative, held from November 3 to 6, 2025, was aimed at equipping EFCC personnel with enhanced skills to identify, prevent, and investigate fraudulent practices within the public sector — a critical step in strengthening Nigeria’s anti-corruption architecture.
Delivering the closing remarks on behalf of the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Deputy Commandant, Training, EFCC Academy, Assistant Commander of EFCC (ACE I) Halima Rufau, commended participants for their dedication and commitment throughout the programme. She urged them to put the knowledge acquired into practice and to share insights with their colleagues across the Commission’s various Commands.
“This training is a testament to the Executive Chairman’s passion and commitment to strengthen our collective capacity to combat fraud and entrench integrity within the public sector. We are deeply grateful to him for his vision, guidance, and unwavering support in making this programme a success,” Rufau stated.
Highlighting the objectives of the training, Rufau explained that the course focused on strengthening internal control systems, identifying red flags, conducting fraud risk assessments, and integrating preventive and investigative processes into daily operations. According to her, these measures have significantly broadened the participants’ understanding of proactive fraud management and investigative precision.
“In the delivery of this course, the Commission has also demonstrated its core values of integrity, professionalism, collaboration, and courage — values that define the EFCC and guide all that its workforce does,” she added.
The four-day training featured expert presentations, case studies, and interactive sessions on emerging trends in fraud risk management, internal control mechanisms, and effective investigative strategies. Participants were exposed to practical tools and methodologies to enhance transparency and accountability in the public sector.
The EFCC continues to prioritise capacity building as part of its reform agenda under the leadership of Mr. Ola Olukoyede, reinforcing its commitment to professionalism, innovation, and excellence in the fight against corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria.
