EFCC Warns Against Obstruction of Operations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to the public against obstructing its officers from carrying out their lawful duties, emphasizing that such actions constitute a criminal offence.

According to Section 38(2)(a)(b) of the EFCC Establishment Act, it is illegal to impede officers of the Commission in the discharge of their duties. Offenders face the possibility of a jail term lasting no less than five years.

The caution comes in response to a concerning trend where individuals and groups under investigation by the EFCC resort to unlawful tactics, including hiring thugs to disrupt the Commission’s operations.

Instances have arisen where EFCC operatives have shown restraint in the face of such provocations to prevent the escalation of chaos. However, this restraint is sometimes misconstrued as weakness.

In light of these developments, the EFCC asserts that it will no longer tolerate any form of obstruction to its operations. Any individual or organization found guilty of such actions will face appropriate punitive measures.

Dele Oyewale, Head of Media & Publicity for the EFCC, issued the warning, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to upholding the law and carrying out its mandate without hindrance.

The EFCC urges members of the public to cooperate with its officers and refrain from actions that obstruct justice or impede the fight against financial crimes.
