Fans Knock Davido Over Attack on Osun CP

Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has faced backlash from fans and netizens after publicly criticizing the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mohammed Abba, over the handling of security preparations for the state’s local government elections.

Davido took to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, February 17, 2025, to express his frustration, using strong language to accuse the CP of failing to uphold the rule of law. In one post, he wrote, “Mr Commissioner respect the rule of law!!! You are not madder or crazier than us!! Make we all kuku mad!! MEN MOUNT WALAI TO KRF!!! I will post u everyday everywhere Mr man!!! Try me f***er.”

In another post, he added, “Mr Umar Abba Osun State Commissioner, you are a disgrace to your children!!!!! Game on F***ER!!!! All of us go mad together!! Werey!!!”

However, shortly after his posts went viral, Davido returned to social media to retract his statements. In a follow-up post titled *‘My Take on Osun CP, NPF and Forthcoming LG Elections’*, the singer acknowledged the efforts of the CP and other security agencies.

He wrote, “Further review of political development in Osun State revealed more facts which include several genuine efforts of the state security agencies including the state Commissioner of Police. The bloodshed of today infuriated me so much that I heaped all the blame on the Commissioner of Police. I now see that the issue is more than that of the Commissioner of Police or other security chiefs. The needless killings of today angered me so deeply that I thought such should have been nipped in the bud. Yet, I can see that the security agencies led by the Commissioner of Police put in their best and deserve commendation.”

Despite his retraction, many netizens criticized Davido for his initial outburst, describing it as “unguarded” and “disrespectful.”

Mezie Abia commented, “Davido, you don’t have to sound rude to a constituted authority. We shouldn’t encourage it, please. If the Police commissioner has done anything contrary to his professional ethics, call him out for it or better still make it more official by forwarding a petition against him to the police authorities so they can have it ironed out. The society is already in chaos to be thrown into a deeper turmoil with all these exhibitions and power tussles.”

Another user, Dhrey, wrote, “Whatever happened should be handled with maturity, David. This is an old man; and hurling all these insults at him is not nice. You’re a big artiste who represents Nigeria worldwide. Guard your tongue when your heart is filled with anger.”

Ade added, “You see why Grammy is running away from you? Stop this unnecessary gangsterism.”

However, some fans defended Davido, noting his passion for his home state. User kvng_urban commented, “At least, he cares about the situation of his state and he always speaks out.”

The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the appropriate way for public figures to address grievances, especially when dealing with law enforcement and other authorities. While Davido’s retraction has softened the backlash, the episode serves as a reminder of the influence celebrities wield and the need for measured communication.
