FCT Police Apprehend Notorious Armed Robbery Kingpin and Gang Members, Recovers Weapons

In a significant breakthrough, the operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a notorious armed robbery kingpin and four of his accomplices, recovering a cache of dangerous weapons in the process.

The arrest, which took place on April 4, 2024, at approximately 2:00 PM, saw the apprehension of Chukwuemeka Oputa, also known as “Pounds and Dollar,” aged 38, hailing from Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State. Oputa is identified as the leader of an armed robbery gang responsible for a spate of armed robberies and other heinous crimes in the FCT.

The breakthrough came following the earlier arrest of Moses Hassan, a cultist and member of the armed robbery gang, on February 14, 2024. Subsequent investigations led the police to apprehend three other members of the gang: Praise Etta, Rafael Dav (also known as Raffy), and Thomas Akange. All suspects have confessed to their involvement in numerous armed robberies and criminal activities in the FCT. They are also identified as members of the Viking confraternity cult group.

During the arrests, law enforcement agents recovered several exhibits, including four locally fabricated AK47 rifles, three locally made rifles using cartridges, an English pistol, one locally made pistol, a Dane gun, and various ammunition. The recovery of these weapons marks a significant blow to criminal activities in the FCT.
