Federal Government Allocates N47.5 Billion to Upgrade 50 Senior Secondary Schools Nationwide
Koton Karfe, Kogi State — The Federal Government has allocated N47.5 billion for the initial phase of upgrading 50 selected senior secondary schools across the country. This announcement was made by Dr. Iyela Ajayi, the Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), during the groundbreaking ceremony at Government Science Secondary School (GSSC) Koton Karfe, Kogi State, on Wednesday.

Dr. Ajayi emphasized that this is just the beginning of a larger project aimed at improving educational infrastructure nationwide. He explained that once the first phase of the project is completed, a report will be presented to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Education.
“This is just the first phase,” Dr. Ajayi said. “When this phase is completed, we will report to the President and the Minister of Education and say we have finished this stage. Then, they will come and complete the project, and we will move on to the next phase.”
Dr. Ajayi urged patience from schools that were not included in the initial selection, assuring them that further phases will follow. “So, those schools that are not going to benefit from the first phase, I want them to be patient because after this phase, we will come to them,” he said.
He revealed that the intervention for the first phase of upgrades will cover 50 schools, with a budget of N47.5 billion, signaling the government’s commitment to strengthening the senior secondary education sector.
The upgrading of the 50 schools marks a significant step in the Federal Government’s effort to provide better learning environments and improved educational resources for students across Nigeria. This project is expected to enhance the quality of education, especially in key areas like science and technology, preparing students for future challenges.
The first phase of the upgrades will focus on infrastructure improvements, provision of modern learning facilities, and boosting the overall academic experience in the selected schools. The initiative is part of a broader plan to invest in Nigeria’s education system, aligning with the government’s vision of fostering development and innovation through quality education.
As the project progresses, the Federal Government has promised to ensure transparency and accountability in the allocation and use of funds, with future phases set to extend the benefits to more schools across the country.
