Federal Government Approves Contract for 258 km Concrete Superhighway in Kebbi and Sokoto States

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has sanctioned a contract for the construction of a 258-kilometer, three-lane roadway that will feature continuous reinforced concrete pavement in Kebbi and Sokoto States. The project is part of a larger initiative to enhance road infrastructure across Nigeria.

This approved section is part of the 1,000-kilometer superhighway, which will eventually connect Illela in Sokoto State to Badagry in Lagos State. The awarded segment begins in Silame, Sokoto State, and concludes in Buya Town, Kebbi State.

During the FEC meeting held today, government officials emphasized the strategic importance of this highway in fostering regional connectivity, promoting economic growth, and ensuring easier access between the northern and southern regions of the country.

The continuous reinforced concrete pavement is expected to provide a more durable alternative to traditional asphalt, offering better longevity in high-traffic conditions. This initiative is part of the federal government’s ongoing commitment to improving Nigeria’s road networks and fostering socio-economic development.

Further details regarding the timeline for the project and the construction firms involved are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
