The Federal Government has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) on the local production of pharmaceutical products as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, gave the assurance when he received officials of the PSN led by its National President, Pharmacist Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
Akume emphasized that the present administration remains committed to improving the well-being of Nigerians through affordable and accessible healthcare services. He noted that collaboration with key professional bodies such as the PSN is essential to achieving national goals in the health sector, particularly in enhancing the local pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape.

According to the SGF, boosting local production will not only reduce dependence on imported medicines but will also ensure drug security and affordability for citizens.
In his remarks, PSN President Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim highlighted the Society’s ongoing initiatives to support the health sector and announced plans for the PSN Centenary Celebration, scheduled for March 27, 2027. The milestone event will feature public enlightenment campaigns, health outreaches, and public lectures designed to promote national health awareness and celebrate 100 years of pharmaceutical excellence in Nigeria.

Both parties expressed optimism that strengthened collaboration would accelerate progress toward a more resilient and self-sufficient healthcare system.
