FG Approves Kogi–Hunan Free Trade Zone
Abuja, Nigeria — 9th December, 2025
…As Stakeholders Set for Abuja Briefing
The Federal Government has granted approval for the establishment of the Kogi–Hunan Free Trade Zone, marking a major milestone in the development of the Ajaokuta Economic City and boosting Kogi State’s drive toward large-scale industrialisation.
The approval paves the way for the commencement of the ambitious economic hub, which is a product of the strategic partnership between the Kogi State Government, led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the Zhuzhou Municipal Government of Hunan Province, China. The collaboration is rooted in the Kogi–Hunan Sister Province Relationship, designed to promote bilateral investments, technology transfer, and industrial growth.
As preparations intensify, the Kogi State Government is set to hold a major stakeholders’ briefing in Abuja this Tuesday. According to an official invitation signed by the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Kogi State Investment Promotion and Public Private Partnership Agency (KSIPPA), Aliyu Inda Salami, the session will bring together government agencies, investors, and development partners.
The briefing will provide comprehensive insights into the project framework, highlight emerging investment opportunities, and outline the strategic next steps toward the full realization of the Free Trade Zone and the Ajaokuta Economic City.
The Kogi–Hunan Free Trade Zone is expected to catalyse economic activity, attract foreign direct investment, enhance export capacity, and position Kogi State as a key industrial and logistics hub in Nigeria. The upcoming Abuja engagement will set the tone for broader stakeholder alignment as implementation moves into a new phase.
