FG Deploys Four TAC Volunteers to Sierra Leone
Freetown, Sierra Leone | October 20, 2025
In a continued demonstration of Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and development, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially deployed four skilled volunteers to the Republic of Sierra Leone under the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme.
The handover ceremony, held in Freetown, marked the formal introduction of the Nigerian team to their host nation. The volunteers, selected for their distinguished academic and professional credentials, include two Professors, one PhD holder, and one Master’s degree holder. Their areas of expertise—law, medicine, and science—have been identified as crucial to Sierra Leone’s national development priorities.
Kimiebi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the deployment aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s foreign policy agenda aimed at enhancing bilateral and multilateral relationships, particularly within Africa and the Caribbean. This initiative, Ebienfa noted, is a practical expression of Nigeria’s drive for South-South cooperation and continental solidarity.
“The deployment of these experts is part of a broader vision to strengthen our fraternal ties and contribute meaningfully to the human capital development of our sister nations,” Ebienfa said.
According to the Ministry, the volunteers will be stationed across various educational and professional institutions in Sierra Leone, where they are expected to play a significant role in capacity building and institutional development.
The Nigerian government extended its gratitude to the Government and people of Sierra Leone for the warm reception accorded to the volunteers. The gesture, officials say, underscores the mutual respect and longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two West African nations.
This latest deployment reflects Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to the ideals of shared prosperity, African unity, and global cooperation. It also highlights the role of the TAC scheme as a strategic instrument in Nigeria’s foreign policy toolkit, aimed at promoting peace, development, and collaboration across the Global South.
As the volunteers begin their assignments, both countries look forward to the positive impact their contributions will bring in advancing Sierra Leone’s developmental goals.
