FG MOVES TO STRENGTHEN FEED SECURITY, DEEPENS COLLABORATION WITH OLAM AGRI

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to strengthen feed security in Nigeria’s livestock sector, as the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, , paid a strategic visit to ’s Integrated Soy Crush and Feedmill Complex in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The visit underscores the government’s commitment to addressing one of the most critical challenges in livestock production — the high cost and inconsistent availability of quality feed.
During the inspection of the facility, the Minister emphasised that feed accounts for the largest cost component in livestock production, making local capacity expansion in soybean processing essential for improving price stability and ensuring reliable supply.

He noted that strengthening domestic processing would significantly reduce Nigeria’s vulnerability to external market shocks, while supporting farmers and livestock producers across the country.

Engagements during the visit focused on enhancing coordination along the entire livestock value chain — from crop cultivation and feed manufacturing to livestock production and final market supply. The discussions highlighted the importance of integrated partnerships between government and private sector players in achieving sustainable growth.

Olam Agri reaffirmed its long-term investment commitment to Nigeria’s agricultural sector, expressing readiness to deepen collaboration aimed at boosting feed availability and improving productivity within the livestock industry.

Both government and industry stakeholders pledged to work more closely to enhance feed security, scale up local production capacity, and build a more resilient and self-sustaining food system.
The initiative forms part of broader Federal Government reforms targeted at improving food security, supporting agribusiness development, and strengthening rural livelihoods nationwide.
