FG Orders Night Construction to Ease Abuja-Keffi Gridlock

In a bid to address the persistent traffic congestion along the busy Abuja-Keffi Expressway, the Federal Government has ordered contractors handling the road reconstruction project to begin night construction work. The directive was issued by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, during an inspection visit to the project site.
The Abuja-Keffi corridor, a critical link between the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State, serves thousands of commuters daily and is notorious for its chronic gridlock, particularly during peak hours. To alleviate the burden on road users while ensuring the project progresses on schedule, the minister emphasized the need for 24-hour construction activity.
“The volume of traffic on this road is overwhelming, and it’s causing serious delays and hardship to commuters,” Goronyo stated. “To ease the situation, we have instructed the contractors to immediately begin night shifts in addition to their daytime operations.”
Despite the increased construction activity, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the project by its original deadline of December 2026. He also assured the public that all necessary safety measures would be enforced to protect workers and road users during nighttime construction.
Goronyo urged commuters to cooperate with traffic authorities and adhere to diversions and signage put in place to manage traffic flow during the extended construction hours.
The Abuja-Keffi road expansion is part of the federal government’s broader infrastructure development strategy aimed at decongesting major highways, enhancing connectivity, and boosting economic activities in the region.
Residents and motorists welcomed the night construction directive, expressing hope that the move would significantly reduce travel time and improve their daily commuting experience.
