FG Partners with Yobe State to Deploy $5M Solar Power for Health and Education Institutions

Yobe State, March 30, 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria has partnered with the Yobe State Government to deploy a $5 million solar power project aimed at improving electricity supply to health and education institutions across the state.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen critical infrastructure in underserved communities, particularly in the areas of healthcare delivery and access to quality education. The project will see the installation of solar mini-grids and standalone systems in selected hospitals, primary healthcare centres, schools, and tertiary institutions.

Officials say the intervention is expected to address persistent power challenges that have hindered effective service delivery, especially in rural areas. By providing reliable and clean energy, the project will enhance medical services, support the storage of vaccines, and create a more conducive learning environment for students.

The partnership underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding renewable energy adoption as a sustainable solution to Nigeria’s energy deficit, while also supporting state-level development initiatives.

Authorities in Yobe State have welcomed the development, noting that the project will significantly boost socio-economic activities and improve the overall well-being of residents.

The solar deployment is expected to commence in phases, with priority given to institutions in remote and off-grid communities.
