Fibroids:What you should know!!!

Fibroid is a common topic and yet, we still know little/nothing about it
What is fibroid?
Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb(uterus). The growths vary in size. Many women are unaware they have fibroids because they do not have symptoms.
What are the symptoms?
- Heavy periods or painful periods
- Tummy(abdominal) pain
- Lower back pain
- A frequent need to urinate
- Constipation
- A pain or discomfort during sex

What are causes?
The exact cause of fibroids is unknown, but they have been linked to the hormone oestrogen. Oestrogen is the female reproductive hormone produced by the ovaries(the female reproductive organs).
How do we treat it?
Treatment may not be necessary if you have fibroids but do not have symptoms or if you have minor symptoms that are not significantly affecting your everyday activities.
Treatment for major symptoms
If you have fibroids that need treatment, a General Doctor may recommend medicine to help relieve your symptoms.
You may need to see a gynecologist for further medicine or surgery if these treatments are ineffective.
