Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday, 6 January 2026, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of forty-eight classrooms at the Higher Islamic College and inaugurated a newly constructed Day Secondary School in Fikayel, Bayo Local Government Area of the state.
The ceremony marked another milestone in the state government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, particularly in rural communities. Governor Zulum said the projects were aimed at expanding access to quality education and addressing the challenges faced by school dropouts and learners from non-formal education backgrounds.
The Higher Islamic College project will comprise forty-eight classrooms, including twenty classrooms arranged in three blocks. The college is expected to provide educational opportunities for dropouts and graduates of non-formal schools from rural communities, enabling them to transition into formal education and acquire relevant academic and vocational skills.
