Fire Outbreak in Oyingbo Claims the Life of a 103-Year-Old Woman, Destroys Homes and Shops

A tragic fire outbreak at a residential building on Bola Street, Oyingbo, Lagos, has claimed the life of a 103-year-old woman and left several families counting their losses.
According to a preliminary report released by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire reportedly started in one of the rooms within the affected residential building before rapidly spreading to eight other rooms. The inferno further extended to six nearby shops, destroying goods and properties estimated to be worth millions of naira.
Emergency responders were immediately mobilised to the scene. The response team included the LASEMA Rescue Team from Onipanu, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, officers of the Nigerian Police Force, and other critical stakeholders. Their combined efforts successfully contained and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjoining buildings in the densely populated area.
Sadly, during rescue and recovery operations, the body of a 103-year-old woman was discovered within the building. She was confirmed dead at the scene.
The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be determined, as investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
LASEMA has assured residents that further updates will be provided as more details emerge, while also urging members of the public to observe fire safety precautions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
