First Lady Installed As Utukpa Oritse Of Warri Kingdom

Nigeria’s First Lady, , has been installed as the Utukpa Oritse of Warri Kingdom, a revered traditional title which means “The Light of God.”
The honour was conferred on her by the , the Olu of Warri, during her one-day homecoming visit to her Itsekiri maternal roots in Delta State.

Describing the First Lady as the pride of the Itsekiri nation, the monarch said the recognition was bestowed on her in acknowledgment of her profound impact on the nation and her continued service to humanity. He noted that her dedication to social development, women empowerment, and national unity has brought honour not only to her immediate community but to Nigeria as a whole.

The installation ceremony drew an array of dignitaries from across the country. Among them was the Governor of Delta State, , who commended the Warri monarch for recognising excellence and celebrating indigenous heritage.
Also in attendance were notable traditional rulers led by the , the Ooni of Ife, who recently installed the First Lady as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua, further cementing her growing recognition within traditional institutions across the country.


The colourful ceremony showcased the rich culture and traditions of the Itsekiri people, featuring vibrant attire, traditional music, and age-long rites symbolic of honour and acceptance into the kingdom’s esteemed fold. Cultural troupes thrilled guests with performances reflecting the heritage and unity of the Warri Kingdom.

State House Correspondent, Adeniyi Taiwo, reports that the event not only celebrated the First Lady’s achievements but also reinforced the enduring relevance of Nigeria’s traditional institutions in promoting identity, culture, and national cohesion.

With her installation as Utukpa Oritse, Oluremi Tinubu further strengthens her ancestral ties to the Itsekiri people, marking a significant moment in the history of the Warri Kingdom.
