Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, February 12, 2026
A major political realignment has unfolded in Kebbi State as the former National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mariya Waziri, along with thousands of her supporters, formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Correspondent Abduljalil Mohammed Bawa reports that Waziri was warmly received by Governor Nasir Idris at a ceremony in Birnin Kebbi.
The high-profile defection was officially marked at a gathering where Governor Idris described the development as a significant boost to democratic consolidation in the state. He emphasized that the influx of new members reflects growing confidence in the policies and programmes of the APC-led administration, both at the state and federal levels.
Governor Idris noted that ongoing initiatives in Kebbi State are designed to complement the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He further assured that his administration would continue efforts to attract more supporters to the ruling party.
Speaking at the event, Mariya Waziri stated that her decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to contribute more effectively to the development of Kebbi State and Nigeria as a whole. She pledged her loyalty to the party and urged her supporters to remain law-abiding and supportive of government policies.
Waziri’s defection marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, highlighting APC’s growing influence and the continued fluidity of political affiliations in Nigeria.
