FRSC FCT SECTOR COMMAND ARRESTS ‘ONE CHANCE’ SYNDICATE IN WUSE, ABUJA— Hands Over Suspects to FCT Police Command for Prosecution
In a significant breakthrough against urban crime, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), FCT Sector Command, has apprehended a group of suspected ‘One Chance’ criminals operating along the Wuse axis of Abuja.
According to the Sector Commander, Felix Theman, the syndicate was intercepted by an FRSC patrol team on routine monitoring duty after an alarming incident in which the suspects pushed a female victim out of their moving vehicle in a bid to evade capture.
The swift action by the patrol team led to the successful apprehension of the vehicle and its occupants, preventing their escape and possibly saving more victims from falling prey.
“The suspects were caught red-handed after their victim was thrown out of a moving vehicle. Our patrol team quickly moved to intercept and secure the scene. They have since been handed over to the FCT Police Command for thorough investigation and prosecution,” Theman stated.
The incident underscores the increasingly pivotal role of the FRSC in enhancing not just road safety, but public security across Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. While traditionally focused on traffic management and accident prevention, the Corps has, in recent years, collaborated more actively with other security agencies in tackling criminal activity on highways and urban roads.
The ‘One Chance’ phenomenon — a notorious form of robbery involving criminals who pose as commercial drivers or passengers to lure unsuspecting victims — has become a major concern in Abuja and other urban centers. Victims are often robbed, assaulted, or abandoned in remote locations after being coerced into the vehicles.
Authorities have commended the FRSC for its vigilance and quick response, while also urging residents to be extra cautious when boarding unmarked or suspicious commercial vehicles.
The FCT Police Command has confirmed that the suspects are in custody and will face full investigation, with charges to follow.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities and avoid boarding vehicles in unregulated or dark areas, especially during off-peak hours.
Security Tips for Commuters in Abuja:
- Use only registered ride-hailing services or marked commercial vehicles.
- Avoid entering vehicles with tinted windows or no proper identification.
- Always share your trip details with someone you trust.
- Be alert and trust your instincts; if something feels off, don’t enter the vehicle.
The collaborative effort between FRSC and the Police in this case offers a beacon of hope in the ongoing fight against criminality in the FCT. More importantly, it sends a clear message: the days of impunity for One Chance operators are numbered.
