GOMBE–DAMATURU TRANSMISSION LINE VANDALISED
Gombe, Nigeria – October 27, 2025
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that one of its transmission towers along the Gombe–Damaturu line has been vandalised, leading to a partial disruption of bulk electricity supply to parts of Borno and Yobe States.
According to a statement from TCN, the incident affected the supply of power to Maiduguri, Damaturu, and their surrounding communities. However, the company assured that power supply to the affected areas is being sustained through alternative sources.
“Bulk supply is currently being maintained through the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant, which feeds the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for onward distribution to consumers,” the statement read.
The company explained that electricity is being routed through major 33kV feeders, including Beneshiek, Damasak, Bama, University Campus, Maiduguri Town, Monguno, and others, to minimise the impact of the outage. In addition, Damaturu and its environs will temporarily receive power from the Potiskum Substation.
TCN disclosed that its team of engineers has already been deployed to the vandalised site and is working to replace the damaged tower and restore full transmission as soon as possible.
The company condemned the act of vandalism and appealed to the public to help safeguard national power infrastructure. “We urge all Nigerians to protect public assets and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency or TCN office,” the statement added.
The Transmission Company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring reliable and stable electricity transmission across the country despite the challenges posed by vandalism and other forms of infrastructure sabotage.
