Gombe Secures Medical Equipment, Commodities from FG to Boost Primary Healthcare Delivery
Gombe, October 5, 2025
In a significant stride towards improving healthcare delivery, the Federal Government has handed over a consignment of reproductive health equipment and essential medical commodities to the Gombe State Government. The intervention is targeted at enhancing service delivery across Primary Health Centres (PHCs) throughout the state.
The official handover ceremony took place on Saturday in Gombe, where the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasized the importance of the initiative in supporting state-level healthcare reforms.
“You have done a lot to expand access to primary healthcare, but as part of the sector-wide approach, the Federal Government is also contributing its share to ensure that PHCs deliver quality care for women, children, and vulnerable populations,” Prof. Pate said. “These equipment and commodities are meant for primary healthcare centres across all the local government areas of Gombe State.”
The Minister applauded Gombe’s efforts through the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the contributory health scheme known as Go-Health. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to collaborate with states in fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the health sector.
“This initiative is being implemented across the 36 states of the federation, but we are beginning with Gombe. Other states will follow,” he added.
Receiving the medical supplies on behalf of the state government, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the continuous support to Gombe’s healthcare sector. He described the intervention as timely and critical in achieving his administration’s healthcare development goals.
“We have prioritized healthcare reforms in the state through revitalization of PHCs and recruitment of health workers,” Governor Yahaya said. “This support from the Federal Government will strengthen our ongoing efforts and further improve health outcomes for our citizens.”
The State Coordinator of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Mr. Abba Ibrahim Musa, highlighted the objective of the support package, noting that it aims to enhance maternal and child health services and increase access to quality reproductive healthcare.
Items handed over include:
• Delivery beds and hospital mattresses
• Portable ultrasound machines with foetal dopplers
• Baby cots and resuscitation workstations
• Suction machines, microscopes, and various laboratory equipment
• Weighing scales, diagnostic sets, and BP machines
• 25 Solar Direct Drive refrigerators for vaccine storage
• Bundled packs of 60 essential medicines including analgesics, antimicrobials, anti-malarials, medications for postpartum care, hypertension treatment, and family planning commodities
The handover marks a crucial milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to support PHC revitalization across the country, beginning with Gombe as a model for other states to follow.
