Jos, Plateau State — January 2, 2026
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political development in the state.
The governor officially picked up his APC membership card on Thursday after resigning from the PDP. He was formally received by members of the Plateau State Executive Council of the APC at the party’s secretariat in Jos.
Speaking after the completion of all formalities, Governor Mutfwang said his decision to join the APC followed wide-ranging consultations across the state. He described his political vision as one anchored on the unity and progress of Plateau State.
According to him, his aspiration is the realization of a “United Plateau,” urging all citizens to embrace unity and work together for the collective good of the state. The governor further reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he said is committed to placing Nigeria on a sustainable path of development.
Welcoming the governor into the party, the Plateau State Chairman of the APC, Rufus Bature, described the party as one that accommodates all Nigerians without discrimination. He assured Governor Mutfwang and his supporters of equal opportunities and full integration within the party structure.
Also speaking at the event, the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Samuel Jatau, called on stakeholders to set aside political and personal differences. He emphasized the need for citizens and leaders alike to “think Plateau and act Plateau” in the interest of peace and development.
