Governor Yusuf Clinches Global Infrastructure Award in London

KANO, NIGERIA – Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been awarded the Governor of the Year in Infrastructure Development at the 15th African Achievers Awards, held at the prestigious Westminster Palace, House of Lords, London.

According to a statement issued by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General, Media and Publicity at the Government House Kano, the event recognised Yusuf’s sweeping efforts in modernizing the state through infrastructure-focused governance — particularly his large-scale road constructions, urban renewal schemes, and rehabilitation of vital public facilities.

The award, presented by Deputy Mayor of London, Mr. Mete Coban, signifies international recognition of the governor’s leadership and inclusive development agenda. Representing Governor Yusuf at the event were Usman Bala, mni, Special Adviser on State Affairs, and Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

“This honour reflects Governor Yusuf’s unwavering commitment to reshaping Kano through development that directly improves the lives of our people,” Usman Bala said during his acceptance speech.

The African Achievers Award, now in its 15th edition, is renowned for celebrating transformative leadership across the continent. Other notable recipients this year included the Governor of Benue State and the King of the Zolu Nation in South Africa, underscoring the event’s continental reach and impact.

Governor Yusuf’s recognition not only amplifies his visibility on the global stage but also affirms Kano State’s emergence as a beacon of infrastructure-led growth in Nigeria.
