Governor Zulum Urges Communities to Be Resilient; Assures Kirawa Residents of Commitment to Security

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents of the Kirawa community in Gwoza Local Government Area to remain resilient in the face of ongoing security challenges.
Governor Zulum made the appeal during a condolence and assessment visit to Kirawa on Thursday, following a deadly attack that occurred on Monday. The assault, which claimed at least three lives and resulted in the destruction of homes and shops by fire, marked a tragic setback for the recovering community.
Kirawa, a border town near the Republic of Cameroon, was one of many communities forcibly displaced by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014. After years of abandonment and hardship, the town was resettled in 2022 under the leadership of Governor Zulum, who has championed numerous resettlement and reconstruction efforts across Borno State.
During his visit, Governor Zulum sympathized with the bereaved families and affected residents, promising increased security presence and strategic support to prevent future attacks. He commended the resilience of the people and their determination to rebuild their lives despite past and present adversities.
“Your courage to return home and rebuild your community is commendable,” the Governor said. “We must not allow these tragic incidents to discourage us. My administration will continue to work with security agencies to improve the situation and ensure the safety of our people.”
Kirawa had seen a revival of socio-economic activities since its resettlement, with farming and small businesses gradually picking up. However, Monday’s attack threatens to reverse the fragile gains made over the past three years.
Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with security operatives, noting that the government is exploring both military and civil solutions to address lingering threats in border areas.
As Borno continues its path to recovery after more than a decade of insurgency, the Governor’s visit served as both a morale booster and a reaffirmation of his administration’s focus on stability, development, and the restoration of normalcy across the state.
