HEADQUARTERS 3 DIVISION COMMITS TO STRENGTHENING COLLABORATION WITH FRSC
Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos — 23 September 2025
In a pivotal move aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing traffic-related fatalities, Headquarters 3 Division Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to stronger inter-agency cooperation with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). This assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Sector Commander, FRSC Plateau Sector Command, Corps Commander OE Mogaji, to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), Major General EF Oyinlola.
The meeting, which took place at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment on 23 September 2025, centered on the importance of partnership in ensuring the safety of lives on Nigerian roads, particularly within Plateau State and its environs.
While welcoming the FRSC delegation, Major General Oyinlola underscored the national significance of road safety, stating,
“We recognize and deeply appreciate the critical role the FRSC plays in national security. Your mandate to ensure safety on our roads is not just a transportation issue; it is a fundamental component of national stability, economic prosperity, and the overall well-being of our citizens.”
He stressed that collaborative efforts between security and civil safety agencies were essential, especially in regions contending with security challenges. The GOC highlighted that the success of Operation ENDURING PEACE is linked closely to effective road management and safety, which are crucial for swift and secure troop movement.
In his response, Corps Commander Mogaji lauded the Nigerian Army’s role in maintaining peace and stability across Plateau State. He emphasized that the FRSC has drawn significant inspiration from the Army’s structured and disciplined approach to operations. He further advocated for mutual support in intelligence sharing, joint training for military drivers, and enhanced security at motor parks across the state.
“Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) have no respect for rank or position,” Mogaji warned, while encouraging military personnel to adopt safer driving habits.
He detailed ongoing FRSC initiatives such as safety inspections of fuel tankers, road safety awareness campaigns, and free quarterly vehicle checks, and appealed for military collaboration in expanding these efforts.
Responding to the Sector Commander’s concerns, Major General Oyinlola assured that 3 Division would take immediate steps to address the identified security threats at motor parks. He also expressed strong interest in the FRSC’s proposal to train military drivers, noting that such cooperation would enhance operational readiness and reduce avoidable accidents.
“Timely reporting of movements and gatherings serves as an early warning system, enabling us to respond effectively to security threats,” the GOC added, recognizing the FRSC as a valuable partner in both safety and security operations.
The visit concluded with the traditional exchange of souvenirs, signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph—solidifying the deepening relationship between the Nigerian Army and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Both agencies reaffirmed their shared commitment to improving road safety, fostering public awareness, and enhancing regional security through seamless collaboration.
