Heavy Security Presence at PDP National Headquarters as Abdulrahman Mohammed Resumes as Acting National Chairman

Wadata Plaza, Abuja, November 3, 2025

A heavy security presence was observed this morning at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wadata Plaza, Abuja, following the emergence of a new faction within the party.

The former Vice Chairman of the PDP (North Central), Abdulrahman Mohammed, arrived at the headquarters to assume office as the acting National Chairman of the party. His arrival was reportedly accompanied by a convoy of supporters and a significant deployment of armed security personnel who took positions around the building to maintain order.

Mohammed, who recently announced the formation of a new faction within the PDP, was seen entering the complex amid tight security and cheering supporters. The factional leader has declared that his assumption of office marks a “new beginning” for the opposition party, promising reforms and internal restructuring to “restore true democratic values” within the PDP.
In a surprising turn of events, the current National Chairman, Umar Damagun, along with the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and several other members of their faction, were notably absent from the headquarters. Their whereabouts remain unclear as of press time, and no official statement has been released by their camp regarding the unfolding situation.

Party insiders suggest that the internal power struggle has reached a breaking point, raising concerns about the unity and stability of the PDP ahead of upcoming political activities and possible realignments.
Security operatives have cordoned off parts of the Wadata Plaza premises, restricting movement in and out of the building as tensions remain high.

Further details are expected as both factions prepare to address the media on the leadership crisis rocking Nigeria’s main opposition party.
