High Stakes in Morocco Showdown as Nigerian Billionaire Puts $500,000 on the Line

Marrakech, Morocco — January 14

Nigerian billionaire industrialist Abdul Samad Rabiu has raised the stakes ahead of the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final showdown against host nation Morocco, pledging substantial cash rewards to spur the team to victory.
Rabiu, the Chairman of BUA Group, announced a $500,000 bonus for the Super Eagles if they overcome Morocco in the highly anticipated semi-final encounter. In addition, he promised an extra $50,000 for every goal Nigeria scores in the match, underscoring his confidence in the team’s attacking strength.

The pledge was made public in a message posted on X following Nigeria’s impressive 2–0 victory over Algeria in Marrakech, a result that secured the Super Eagles a place in the last four of the tournament.

But the incentives do not stop at the semi-final stage. Rabiu also revealed that he would reward the team with a further $1 million should Nigeria go on to lift the AFCON trophy. To sweeten the offer even more, he promised an additional $100,000 bonus for every goal scored in the final.

Nigeria, three-time champions of Africa, will face Morocco on Wednesday as the tournament reaches its decisive phase. With national pride, continental glory, and significant financial rewards on the line, the semi-final clash is shaping up to be one of the most high-stakes encounters of the competition.
