Hon. Waliu Owode Commissions Projects, Empowers Residents Across Ijebu East

Ijebu East, Ogun State – September 29, 2025 —

It was a historic day in Ijebu East Local Government as Hon. Waliu Ifedolapo Owode (Oloogun-Ebi), Member of the Ogun State House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, commissioned a range of constituency projects while also unveiling a grassroots empowerment programme designed to improve livelihoods.

The projects, spread across all wards of the constituency, target critical needs such as access to potable water, sanitation, rural electrification, and community development.

Projects Commissioned

Among the key projects officially opened were motorized boreholes with generators and concrete platforms in 13 different communities, including Tidesa, Igbomoku, Lagunjo, Ojuleyingbo, Odomore, Odomefi, Olooji, Ehin Ade, Gbamugbamu Market, J4 Market, Mafowoku, Araromo, and Old Benin Road.

In addition, two modern public toilet facilities with boreholes were commissioned at Gbamugbamu Market and J4 Market, while solar-powered streetlights were installed across all wards in Ijebu East to enhance security and improve night-time commerce.

Empowerment Programme

Beyond infrastructure, Hon. Owode launched an empowerment initiative that provided tools and equipment to artisans, traders, and households. Beneficiaries received items such as sewing machines, grinding machines, clippers, hairdryers, washing basins, blenders, generators, pressing irons, and solar lamps.

Community members hailed the initiative as a direct response to the challenges of small-scale business owners and families, noting that it would boost productivity and ease daily living conditions.

Event Highlights

The commissioning ceremony attracted a high-profile turnout led by the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daisi Elemide, who chaired the event. Other dignitaries included Deputy Speaker Hon. Ajayi Lateefat, Minority Leader Hon. Adeleye Lukmon, and lawmakers from Waterside, Ikenne, Obafemi, Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Ewekoro, Ifo, Sagamu, and Remo constituencies.

Prominent PDP leaders such as Engr. Safiriyu Awobadejo, Alhaji Zadius, Alhaji Animashaun, Comrade Adegbesan, Mama Omisande, and Baba Epele Sir were also present, alongside representatives of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Commodity Alliance Forum, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, and the Cocoa Association of Nigeria. Farmers also received fertilizers as part of Hon. Owode’s ongoing agricultural support programme.

Owode’s Remarks

Speaking at the event, Hon. Owode reaffirmed his commitment to both infrastructure and empowerment.

“This is not just about projects—it’s about people. From boreholes to solar lights, from sewing machines to blenders, everything we do is to make life easier and brighter for our people. Ijebu East must feel the true dividends of democracy,” he said.

The programme ended on a celebratory note, with residents describing the interventions as a new dawn in the constituency’s development.
