
Ijebu-Ife Celebrates Rear Admiral Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga in Grand Style at Ajalorun’s Palace

Ijebu-Ife, Ogun State – February 22, 2025 – The historic Palace of the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife was the epicenter of celebration and pride on Saturday as the town hosted a grand reception in honor of one of its most distinguished sons, Rear Admiral Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga, who recently attained a top rank in the Nigerian Navy. The event, held at the majestic palace of Oba Adesesan Oguntayo, the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, was a vibrant celebration of excellence, dedication, and service to the nation, drawing dignitaries, traditional rulers, and political leaders from across the country.

The reception, organized by the Ijebu-Ife community, was a testament to the pride and joy felt by the people over the remarkable achievements of Rear Admiral Oguntuga. Oba Adesesan Oguntayo, the chief host and traditional ruler of Ijebu-Ife, welcomed guests to what he described as a historic occasion, emphasizing the significance of celebrating one of their own who has brought immense honour to the town.

The event was graced by a high-profile delegation, including the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Oyedele-Salako. Also in attendance were the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Tokunbo Talabi, former Osun State Governor Chief Bisi Akande, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.









Other notable guests included Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, former Minister of State for Health; Ijebu East representative at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Waliu Owode, Hon. Damilare Kehinde, Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government; and his Vice, Hon. (Mrs.) Adetutu Oyesanya. Chairmen of neighbouring local governments, including Hon. Folorunsho Badejo of Ijebu North-East and Hon. Adetoye of Ijebu Waterside, were also present, alongside traditional rulers and community leaders.

In her keynote address on behalf of the governor, Deputy Governor Noimot Oyedele-Salako praised Rear Admiral Oguntuga for his exemplary service to the nation.
“Rear Admiral Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga has demonstrated confidence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the Nigerian Navy. His journey is a testament to the power of dedication and hard work, and today, we celebrate his success with immense pride,” she said.

Oba Adesesan Oguntayo, the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, expressed his joy at hosting the event, describing it as a milestone for the community.
“Today, we celebrate a towering achievement—one that no son of Ijebu-Ife has attained before. Rear Admiral Oguntuga’s rise in the Nigerian Navy is not just a personal success but a collective pride for our community. His career stands as an inspiration to younger generations, proving that with commitment and perseverance, great heights can be reached,” the monarch stated.

“One thing I observed growing up was the love and recognition the people of Ijebu-Ife showered on my late father. Today, I am grateful to receive the same warmth. He also praised Oba Adesesan Oguntayo for his leadership and dedication to the growth of Ijebu-Ife, pledging to contribute to the town’s development.

The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, shared a personal anecdote about the celebrant, recalling their time together in the United States.
“During my time in the United States as a pastor, I met Kolawole Oguntuga, who served as a dependable protocol officer. Despite his prestigious position in Nigeria, he carried out his duties with humility. Now, as a king, I am honored to celebrate his achievements and wish him continued success,” the monarch said.
