Ijebu Ife Honors the Life of Alhaji (Otunba) Abdulganiu Yinka Owode on Second Remembrance Anniversary
Ijebu Ife, Ogun State – On January 11, 2025, the ancient city of Ijebu Ife hosted a grand memorial service in honor of Alhaji (Otunba) Abdulganiu Yinka Owode, the Akinrogun of Ijebu Ife, marking the second anniversary of his passing. The event, a celebration of a life well-lived, brought together dignitaries from across the globe to remember the remarkable patriarch who departed on January 23, 2023.
The ceremony, held in the heart of Ijebu Ife, was attended by notable personalities, including the incumbent Commissioner for Agriculture in Ogun State, Hon. Bolu Owootomo; the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, who was accompanied by his Chiefs; and Hon. Majeed Adekoya, popularly known as “Attacker,” a former House of Representatives member.
Prominent members of the Ogun State House of Assembly also graced the event, including Speaker Rt. Hon. Elemide, Deputy Speaker Mrs. Lateefat Ajayi, Minority Leader Hon. Adeleye Lukmon, Hon. Dare Bello, Hon. Awoso, and Hon. Musefiu Lamidi. The NURTW State Chairman, Alhaji Yaro, also joined the distinguished guests to honor the legacy of Alhaji Owode.
The late Alhaji (Otunba) Abdulganiu Yinka Owode was celebrated not only for his title as the Akinrogun of Ijebu Ife but also for his enduring contributions to the community and his exemplary role as a father and grandfather. He is survived by his children, including Alhaji (Hon.) Waliu Owode, the current representative of Ijebu East in the Ogun State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, as well as numerous grandchildren who continue to uphold his legacy.
The ceremony featured heartfelt tributes, prayers, and an abundance of food and drinks, reflecting the joyous and celebratory spirit of the gathering. Guests shared fond memories of Alhaji Owode, highlighting his dedication to community development and his profound impact on those around him.
The two-year remembrance served as a reminder of Alhaji Owode’s enduring legacy, with family, friends, and dignitaries uniting to celebrate the life of a man who left an indelible mark on Ijebu Ife and beyond. His contributions, wisdom, and leadership continue to inspire generations within the community.
