Imam and Four Others Killed in Zamfara Mosque Attack

Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of an Imam and four other worshippers during an early morning terrorist attack at a mosque in Yandoton Daji, a community in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
In an official statement released on Friday, Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Maikaba, revealed that the attackers stormed the mosque during Subh (dawn) prayers and opened fire indiscriminately on the worshippers. The assault resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including the presiding Imam.
The victims were identified as:
• Sale Dangero, 75 years old
• Mamman Yaro, 72 years old
• Lawali Bataribas, 67 years old
• Malam Jafaru, 68, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police
• Malam Safiyanu, 55 years old
According to CP Maikaba, the terrorists did not only kill the worshippers but also abducted three individuals from the mosque. The kidnapped persons have been named as:
• Danyaye Alhaji Gambo
• Malam Basiru
• Ibrahim Bello
The Commissioner condemned the attack as a heinous act targeting innocent civilians in a place of worship and reiterated the commitment of the Police Command to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators.
He assured residents of Zamfara State that security operations are being reinforced in the area, in collaboration with local vigilantes and other security agencies, to prevent further attacks and secure the safe release of the abducted victims.
Zamfara State has been one of the flashpoints of terrorist and bandit activities in Nigeria’s North-West region, with frequent reports of kidnappings, killings, and displacement of communities.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminal elements destabilizing the region.
