INEC Intensifies Voter Sensitisation Ahead of FCT Area Council Elections

The (INEC) has intensified its voter sensitisation outreach ahead of the forthcoming FCT Area Council Elections scheduled for 21 February 2026.
As part of efforts to deepen voter awareness and encourage peaceful participation, the Commission’s Voter Education Division engaged key religious institutions in Abuja to promote informed and responsible civic engagement.
The sensitisation engagements were held at the and the , where INEC officials addressed congregants on the importance of participating in the electoral process and upholding peaceful conduct before, during, and after the polls.
INEC representatives emphasised the need for eligible voters to verify their voter registration status, locate their polling units, and turn out en masse on election day. They also highlighted the critical role of community and faith leaders in fostering electoral integrity and discouraging misinformation, violence, and vote-buying.
According to the Commission, the outreach forms part of its broader strategy to collaborate with faith-based organisations and other critical stakeholders to ensure peaceful, credible, and inclusive elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
INEC reiterated its commitment to continuous voter education and sustained stakeholder engagement as the election date approaches, assuring residents of its preparedness to conduct a transparent and credible electoral exercise.
The FCT Area Council Elections are expected to attract significant grassroots participation, as voters across the territory prepare to elect their local council representatives in a process aimed at strengthening democratic governance at the community level.
