JAMB Orders CBT Centre Owners: Arrest Intrusive Parents During 2024 UTME

In a decisive move to uphold the integrity of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has instructed all Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre owners to detain any parent found near their premises during the examination period.

This directive, disclosed during the conclusive briefing of CBT centre owners convened virtually on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, serves as a direct response to the intrusive conduct demonstrated by certain parents in past JAMB exercises.

According to the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, any parent contravening this order will face arrest and subject their child to disqualification from participating in the examination. This resolute measure is aimed at curbing examination malpractices orchestrated by meddlesome parents, who have disrupted previous JAMB examinations.

Prof. Oloyede stressed that some individuals posing as parents have infiltrated examination centres to perpetrate various forms of malpractice. Security personnel have been directed to collaborate closely with CBT centres to apprehend any parent attempting to disrupt the examination process.

Additionally, the Board issued a reminder to candidates to safeguard their personal information and cautioned against engaging with fraudulent websites. Candidates found associating with such platforms will be prosecuted as accomplices.

Regarding the logistical arrangements for the 2024 UTME, Prof. Oloyede assured that comprehensive preparations have been made for the examination to be conducted across over 700 CBT centres nationwide. Contingency measures have been established to address any technical challenges that may arise during the examination.

In the event of technical difficulties during a session, affected candidates will be rescheduled while subsequent sessions will proceed as planned. Any candidate or parent causing disruption in subsequent sessions due to technical issues in their session will face immediate disqualification from the examination.

The Registrar urged CBT centre owners to recognize their role as a national service and not solely a profit-making endeavor. He emphasized the imperative of exposing and eradicating fraudulent practices within the system, cautioning against compromising opportunities through unethical conduct.

This directive reaffirms JAMB’s unwavering commitment to conducting transparent and credible examinations, ensuring equitable opportunities for all candidates.
