JAMB Uncovers 1,665 Fake A’level Results in 2023 Direct Entry Registration

In a startling revelation, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed the discovery of approximately 1,665 fake A’level results during the 2023 Direct Entry registration process. The board identified corruption within the A’level results verification system as the root cause of this alarming trend.

During a recent meeting held in Abuja, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, revealed this information to leaders of the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students who visited his office. Prof. Oloyede emphasized the need to address the issue urgently, stating, “Out of this figure, 397 were from Colleges of Education, 453 were university diplomas, and the rest were other A’level certificates.”

He further underscored the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the importance of upholding the integrity of A’level certificates used for admission purposes. Prof. Oloyede stressed the necessity of implementing measures that would withstand scrutiny and ensure the credibility of the admissions process.

The Registrar expressed JAMB’s astonishment at the findings from Bayero University, Kano, where only six out of 148 Direct Entry applications received by the institution were found to possess genuine certificates. This revelation underscores the pervasive nature of the problem and the urgent need for decisive action to address it.

As the guardian of the admissions process in Nigeria, JAMB remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency. The board is working tirelessly to implement robust measures that will effectively combat the proliferation of fake A’level results and safeguard the credibility of the admissions process.

In light of these revelations, stakeholders across the education sector must collaborate closely to root out corruption and ensure that only deserving candidates gain admission based on merit and genuine qualifications.
