KANO BY-ELECTION

Kano, Kano State – February 23, 2026

Voting is ongoing in parts of as the (INEC) conducts a State Assembly by-election.

The exercise is taking place in the and constituencies to fill two vacant seats in the , following the death of the former lawmakers.

As of this morning, voter turnout remains low across several polling units visited in both constituencies. Election officials were seen setting up early, with accreditation and voting proceeding in an orderly manner. Security personnel have also been deployed to strategic locations to ensure a peaceful exercise.

INEC officials confirmed that sensitive materials arrived on time in most polling units, while electoral officers attended promptly to minor logistical concerns reported in a few areas.

Observers note that while the turnout is modest compared to general elections, residents who turned out expressed optimism that the process would strengthen representation at the state legislative level.
The by-election is expected to conclude later in the day, with results to be announced by INEC upon completion of collation.
