A key political advocacy group in Lagos, the League of Concerned Lagosians (LCL), has thrown its weight behind Dr. Tunji Alausa, the current Minister of Education, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement titled “Alausa: Save Lagos Now,” the group emphasized Dr. Alausa’s impressive professional background and his alignment with the vision of President Bola Tinubu, whom they credit with laying the foundation for Lagos’ transformation.
Dr. Alausa, a renowned nephrologist, built a successful career in healthcare before transitioning into governance. His contributions include founding specialized medical centers focused on kidney care and dialysis, expanding access to treatment for renal diseases across multiple locations.
His political trajectory began with close ties to President Tinubu’s administration, culminating in his appointment as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare in 2023. During his tenure, he played a vital role in implementing key health policies before being reassigned as Minister of Education in 2024. Since taking office, he has repealed the controversial 18-year age restriction for university admissions and initiated curriculum reforms aimed at enhancing graduate employability.
The LCL argues that Dr. Alausa’s blend of expertise in health, policy-making, and administration makes him an ideal candidate to lead Lagos into its next phase of development. With the 2027 elections on the horizon, his endorsement signals an early push for continuity within the APC’s governance framework in the state.
