Lagos CP Jimoh Quells Protest, Suspect Arrested for Murder, Assault
Lagos, September 22, 2025
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 55-year-old Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” in connection with two violent incidents that culminated in one fatality and a community protest on Lagos Island.
According to police reports, Oladiti is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba. His arrest follows a series of assaults allegedly committed within the span of a month.
On September 17, 2025, Oladiti allegedly assaulted a dispatch rider in Lagos Island, leaving the victim seriously injured and hospitalized. Just a day later, another complaint was filed implicating the same suspect in a violent altercation that took place on August 28, 2025. During that incident, Oladiti reportedly used a metallic ring to strike a man multiple times on the head and face. Despite receiving medical treatment, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel on September 17. His body has since been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
News of the victim’s death sparked outrage in the community. In a swift reaction, aggrieved individuals stormed Sandgrouse Market, setting fire to two motorcycles belonging to the suspect. The protest threatened to spiral out of control before the prompt intervention of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.
Leading a tactical team to the scene, CP Jimoh successfully dispersed the protesters and restored calm. He assured the public that justice would be served, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to a thorough and impartial investigation.
“The law will take its full course. We urge residents to remain calm and not take matters into their own hands,” CP Jimoh stated.
The Lagos State Police Command is calling on the public to maintain peace and cooperate with investigators as the case unfolds.
Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
