Lagos Hosts Fanti Carnival Celebrating Afro-Brazilian Heritage

Lagos came alive with colour, music, and cultural pride as it hosted the 2026 edition of the Fanti Carnival, a vibrant celebration of Afro-Brazilian heritage that attracted both local and international participants.

Held as part of Easter festivities, the Fanti Carnival is one of the most prominent cultural events in Lagos, deeply rooted in the history of Afro-Brazilian returnees—also known as the “Aguda”—who settled in the city in the 19th century after returning from Brazil.
