Lagos: NEMA Mobilises CCECC to Building Collapse Site

Lagos | January 3, 2026

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has mobilised the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to the site of the Great Nigeria House in Marina, Lagos, which was recently gutted by fire.
The deployment followed a request by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who called on relevant federal agencies to support efforts aimed at safely bringing down the 22-storey building to allow for proper excavation and emergency operations.

NEMA’s Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Usman Bature, alongside the Agency’s Head of Operations in Lagos, Mr. Tunde Mohammed, personally led officials of the Chinese construction firm to the site to assess the situation and plan the next phase of intervention.
During his second visit to the location, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated that no excavation or rescue-related work can safely proceed until the structure is completely demolished, stressing that the safety of emergency responders and other personnel remains paramount.

The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has since mobilised heavy-duty equipment to the site and is currently on standby, awaiting further directives to commence demolition and related operations.

Authorities have assured the public that all actions being taken are guided by safety considerations and coordinated efforts between federal and state agencies to ensure a secure and effective response to the incident.
