Lagos Police to Enforce Tinted Glass Permit from October 2, 2025
Lagos, October 3, 2025
The Lagos State Police Command has announced that it will begin the full enforcement of tinted glass permit regulations starting October 2, 2025, following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety and reduce criminal activities across the state.
In accordance with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004, all vehicle owners using tinted glass are required to obtain an official permit via the Police Specialized Services Automation Project (POSSAP) portal at possap.gov.ng.
Vehicle owners who do not wish to obtain the permit are advised to remove aftermarket tints or replace factory-fitted tinted glass with transparent ones as prescribed by law. The police have warned that vehicles found with tinted windows and no valid permit will be impounded, and their owners prosecuted.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has urged all motorists to carry valid documents and to cooperate with officers during routine checks. He also stressed the importance of professionalism among police officers, warning against any form of harassment or extortion. Any officer found guilty of such misconduct will face disciplinary action, and their supervisors will also be held vicariously liable.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the police command has released dedicated channels for the public to report misconduct:
