Lagos State Government Issues 48-Hour Eviction Notice to Illegal Structures and Squatters Along Gbagada-Bariga Channel

Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has issued a 48-hour vacation notice to property owners and squatters who have erected illegal structures along the Gbagada-Bariga Channel. This channel is crucial for deflooding the Bariga, Gbagada, and Sholuyi downstream communities and ensuring the proper discharge of water into System 1.

The area has been taken over by squatters and property owners whose unauthorized constructions obstruct the free flow of water, posing significant nuisance and security risks. The illegal shanties and obstructions have blocked stormwater collectors, leading to severe flooding in these communities earlier this week.

The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (@LasgMOE) has announced that, following the expiration of the 48-hour notice, they will commence the removal of all contravening structures to restore proper water flow and prevent further flooding.

Residents and property owners are urged to comply with the evacuation notice to avoid forced removal and ensure community safety. The government’s action aims to eliminate environmental hazards and enhance security within the affected areas.
