LASTMA WARNS MOTORISTS TO MAINTAIN SPEED LIMITS ON THE NEWLY RENOVATED 3RD MAINLAND BRIDGE

Lagos, Nigeria – As the Federal Government prepares to reopen the Third Mainland Bridge for traffic on April 4th, 2024, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits while driving on the bridge.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, emphasized the importance of maintaining safe speeds on the recently renovated bridge during an address to officers whose responsibilities cover the operational areas of the Third Mainland Bridge.

According to Bakare Oki, while the bridge has undergone comprehensive repairs and is now in excellent condition, the temptation to exceed speed limits could pose serious risks to motorists and lead to unfortunate consequences. He urged drivers to exercise caution and comply with all traffic regulations, including speed limits and other directives indicated by traffic signs and electronic devices installed along the bridge.

“The government has installed state-of-the-art facilities to facilitate smooth navigation across the entire bridge, ensuring that motorists can reach their destinations within a reasonable travel time,” Bakare Oki stated.

He further advised motorists to plan their journeys in advance, remain mindful of time constraints, and avoid unnecessary speeding while using the bridge and other connecting roads across the state. Additionally, Bakare Oki assured the public that LASTMA would deploy additional personnel, patrol vehicles, and recovery equipment to enhance safety measures and provide timely assistance to motorists in need on the bridge.

However, the General Manager cautioned vehicle owners and drivers to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before traversing the bridge, as any avoidable obstacles that could impede traffic flow would not be tolerated by the agency.

With the impending reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge, LASTMA remains committed to ensuring the safety and efficiency of transportation networks in Lagos State, and urges all road users to cooperate and exercise responsible driving habits for a smoother commuting experience.
