
Major Power Outage Hits Lagos, Oyo as Transmission Towers Collapse

Lagos, Nigeria – Electricity supply to major parts of Southwest Nigeria has been severely disrupted after three critical transmission towers collapsed along the Ikeja West-Osogbo 330KV line, causing a 165-megawatt power deficit.
Incident Details
- Cause: A trailer truck collided with detached conductors during heavy rainfall on April 2, 2025
- Location: 14.9km from Ikeja-West Transmission Substation
- Affected Infrastructure:
- Tower 528 completely collapsed
- Towers 526 and 524 significantly damaged
Impacted Areas
The outage affects bulk power supply to:
✔ Ikeja Electric (Lagos)
✔ Eko Electric (Lagos)
✔ Ibadan Electric (Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Kwara, and parts of Niger, Ekiti, Kogi)
Emergency Response
- TCN engineers are working to restore the towers

TCN’s Statement
“We regret this disruption and assure Nigerians our team is working round-the-clock to restore normal supply,” said TCN’s GM Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah. “We appeal for patience as we undertake these critical repairs.”
